I'm afraid that is not enough information to identify the appliance in question. What is needed is its exact model number ("XL44" isn't it). If you post it we can look it up to see what appliance design you're dealing with.

What do you mean by "turns off"? The oven just stops heating or the control resets to a non-cooking mode??

I forgot to mention that the broiler works fine.

I can't think of what could possibly cause that other than a problem in the electronic control itself. :(

That would likely rule out the possibility of heat from the oven affecting operation of the control.
