I have a Kenmore Series 90 Washer, model #110.23922200, and the "fast" spin cycle does not work properly. The washer is approximately 7 years old.

I can not tell if the "slow" cycle engages when the selector is in the "fast" position or if the spin speed is reduced in both the "fast" and "slow" positions.

I have not noticed any unusual sounds but there was a very slight burning smell when I attempted to run the "fast" spin cycle with a load of wet clothes in the washer.

What part, or parts, should I replace to get the spin cycle back up to speed?

Thanks a bunch!

Your washer model uses a 3-speed motor. I do not know if multiple motor windings are used to achieve the highest speed but if so, one of those motor windings being open (defective) might result in only a lower speed being produced by the remaining winding.

Use the wiring diagram to check the resistance of each of the motor windings. If any are totally open, it would be a good sign the motor itself may be the cause.

** there was a very slight burning smell when I attempted to run the "fast" spin cycle **

It might be the result of a burning motor winding if that's where the odor was originating from. It might also be just from an electrical connection failure. Its origin would likely need to be investigated.
