When switching from wash to rinse the machine just hums and will not drain (i'm assuming thats what action happens next)
It reacts the same if i try to just put it in spin only to drain the water.
Where do i start?

You could start by checking the operation of the lid switch. A washer will not go into spin (where draining also takes place) unless the washer can be sure the lid is closed, as a safety precaution. That is determined by the lid switch.
Since the drain pump on your model is separate from the main motor, a problem in either should not affect the other so those are unlikely to be the cause of your symptom at least.
