I live in a condo complex and we have problems with birds nesting in our dryer vents. I am trying to find a bird guard that will fit over the existing vent hood cover. Though the pipe is only 4" the existing hood cover is 7 3/4" X 8". The largest bird guard I can find is 7 1/4 X 7 1/4. Our contractor has suggested building custom metal boxes with a wire opening on the bottom but I keep thinking there must be a less expensive alternative as we need 45 of these guards. We have nixed the idea of placing wire mesh over the vent hole under the flap as we believe this could cause an accumulation of lint and be a fire hazard. Any thoughts?

I haven't seen any larger myself. How about a vent hood with built-in rodent guard?

I agree.
