I'm afraid that is not enough information to identify the appliance in question. What is needed is its exact model number. If you post it we can look it up to see what appliance design you're dealing with.
You can find tips for locating the model and serial number identification tag on your appliances at the following link:

** I no longer can use the top of the range to start/clock/etc. **
You mean you can't use the electronic control?
Why *exactly* can't you use it? Is it not working at all or maybe it is just unresponsive to button presses or maybe it's displaying some sort of fault code??
More detailed information might help us to suggest a course of action.

It's a GE Profile - Spectra XL44 Self Cleaning Gas Range - Convection Oven. The top of the oven is a touch pad and that is totally out. Is there a fuse in there or something? I bought it off our local Craig's list and have loved it - now not sure what to do. Thanks, Sue

I'm afraid that is not enough information to identify the appliance in question. What is needed is its exact model number ("XL44" isn't it). If you post its model number we can at least look it up to see what appliance design you're dealing with.

You mean it is electronically controlled. Is it just the keypad that is not working (ie. buttons not responding to presses) or is its display not lighting up??
** Is there a fuse in there or something? **
There is not usually a fuse just for the electronic control but someone could confirm that my looking at the appliance's wiring diagram (which I don't have access to) and/or confirming if power is getting to the electronic control.
