** refrigerator makes a soft popping when it cycles off. **

From where exactly? You can read about common sounds a refrigerator can make and the components responsible for then at the following link:

- My refrigerator is making strange sounds. What is wrong with it?

I've been trying to isolate the noise. It seems to be in the front of the refrig. I checked the suggestions on "refrigerator noises", but none seemed to fit. The best way to discribe the sound is that it sounds like when you put your finger inside your cheek and pull the finger out and it makes a pop. Most of you have not done that since you were kids, but that is the sound.

The only places I can think of where such a sound might originate from and which also corresponds to the compressor shutting off is the thermostat, the defrost timer (if used on whatever refrigerator model you have) or the compressor's overload protector. None of which would usually be at the front of the refrigerator.

The compressor's overload protector might be most likely, its sound just resonating under the fridge from the rear?
