I have a GE range, model #JGBP28BEA2WH, that worked great until tonight. I baked in it as recently as 48 hours ago, however when I preheated it tonight, nothing happened. I checked the burners and the broiler and all will light and heat. I removed the to screws in the back of the plate at the bottom of the oven to reveal the ignitor and heat bar. I no longer have my owner's manual and don't know how to get my oven to light and heat. I tried unsuccessfully to "light" it using my aim-a-flame lighter, but still nothing.

What could be the problem and is it worth calling a professional or should I just forge it? I need my oven, but I really can't afford a large service fee either.

Help!

** I removed the to screws in the back of the plate at the bottom of the oven to reveal the ignitor and heat bar. **

And what was going on with them? Was the ignitor glowing when the oven was turned on?

You can read about how common gas oven ignition systems work and the observations and tests necessary to start diagnosing problems with them at the following link:

** I tried unsuccessfully to "light" it using my aim-a-flame lighter, but still nothing. **

If the oven uses a glow ignitor ignition system, it can not be lit with a match, etc. The system has to be functioning properly or it will not operate, as a safety precaution.

** What could be the problem? **

That will depend on the exact symptoms of the problem. The most common possibilities are described at the link above.

** is it worth calling a professional? **

In most cases a gas oven just not heating would usually be worthwhile to have repaired, yes.
