I have a very old, but until now sturdy Kenmore model number 110.81950100 washer. This evening I went to change over a load, and it was still full of water. After switching it to spin cycle again to try to drain it, I see that it will only agitate. The timer moves along as usual, but never switches to a spin cycle, just agitates until the wash cycle is complete. I have replaced the lid switch so that is not the problem. I emptied the washer by hand and restarted a cycle empty and it did spin and drain, but when I added a load and tried it again, same ordeal.. just agitates. HELP!

** It will only agitate. The timer moves along as usual, but never switches to a spin cycle, just agitates until the wash cycle is complete. **
The motor turns one way for agitate and the opposite for spin and drain. It is the timer that is responsible for that direction change. It sounds like the timer may be the cause, maybe 'sticking' or fused contacts in it in which case the timer may need to be replaced.

I can't think of anything else that could cause it to agitate through the whole wash cycle.
