I too have a Kenmore Elite, Model # 110 60072991, Ser # MK5202421,+ which periodically gives me the E1 message after shut off... A couple of days ago though, dryer would not start, display panel would not light up. Tested connection, plug, circuit breaker and then took the panel apart and tested the P3 switch as instructed in the paper work that came with the dryer. Based on our findings it looked as if a new console panel/touch pad assembly was needed. Left town for a few days and upon return touch pad was working???? Getting the E1 message though. Thoughts ... Help?????

** Kenmore [dryer] model 110.60072991 periodically gives me the E1 message **

An E1 error message is suppose to indicate an electrically open thermistor (see the following link) although could also be caused by a problem in the wiring to it or in the electronic control itself that acts upon that sensor's information.

I have gotten the code for some time, always on the same setting... The panel not lighting up was an isolated thing one time last week... Has been running all day. Is it your feeling that the two might be related? Or might the touch panel might be going out? It is an expensive part, over $300. not sure if it it worth replacing if that is the case.

It is very unlikely IMO. A problem in the thermistor should not affect the display other than to generate an error code.
