Hello,
I have a GE side-by-side refrigerator - GSS25SGMC BS. Freezer works for many hours and then stops working for a couple of hours while the food starts melting and then starts working again. When the freezer is not working there is no sound at all. I also noticed frost on the back panel a couple of times. Help!!

- GE refrigerator freezer works on an off.
You can read about common cooling system problems at the following link. Those possibilities will need to be checked at the time of failure.
- My frost free refrigerator is not cooling properly. What might be the problem?

Dan,
thanks for the info. Looked like it was the Defrost Thermostat - Freezer seems to be working fine now.

a defective defrost can would not cause the symptoms you were describing.
It could only cause the heater to stay on too long or not come on at all.
that's a fact

** [the defrost termination thermostat] could only cause the heater to stay on too long or not come on at all. **
I agree... besides the fact that the defrost thermostat on your model is only a safety device and never usually functional at all. Defrosting is controlled by an electronic control and thermistor sensors.
You had better keep an eye on your refrigerator as the problem is likely still present even if the symptoms might have temporarily ceased.
