I need to drill a 1 1/2- 2 inch hole through my laminate countertop. How should I proceed?

Use a hole saw, becareful that you don't slip.

Do I need to be concerned with the RPM? I don't want the laminate to crack or melt.

You have to be concerned with rpm in that you do not want the drill to spin out if it should bind up and ruin the counter top. Run the drill at slow speed until you get thru the laminate itself. Do not apply a lot of pressure.
