We are currently remodeling (ourselves) an 1861 farm house in rural Ohio.Because of wiring and needing insulation we are starting in the kitchen which was once a stove room of some type. We do have a short description of the house in 1900, it states that there were 2 drawing rooms. Thanks to a newspaper in the wall the last remodel was done in 1961 by my husbands Uncle. What can we look for to help us with what was where in this house after 140 years? When in the basement you can tell it was built like a barn. Hand hewed logs and walnut wood work. While we have no hope of being able to restore it to original completely, we would like to keep things as timely as possible. Any suggestions, and yes we are farmers and on a tight budget. Thanks.
