I have a one-story home built in 1958. It has trusses supporting the gable roof. There is an interior wall that runs perpendicular to the direction of the trusses.

I would like to remove part of the wall so that a span of about 14 feet will remain open between this shortened wall (about 3' long) and an exterior wall that runs perpendicular to it.

I've read that with trusses, the interior walls are non-bearing, but I'm trying to make sure. First, is this wall weight bearing? If so, am I safe to leave such a wide open span between the end of the wall and the outside wall?
