We are renovating a Manhattan apartment. In the island we'd like to install a gas cooktop over a separate electric range. We've been told by an inspector that having this setup is not advisable due to safety issues related to explosions! We'd like to avoid having a bulky full range in the island. The manufacturer's information says that this arrangement is fine as does one of their distributors. Does anyone have experience with this?
