hello- can someone tell me if you think this is load bearing or not? I want to saw away those pieces of wood and then re-drywall it it. There was a recessed fluorescent light in there and I want to open it up-

What do you think? Is it safe to saw?

It it away and if the house falls down then it is load bearing.

If it does not fall down then it might or might not be load bearing.

In general there are way too many variables in house construction for anyone, sight unseen, to give you a definate answer.

And you did not even give enough details for anyone to make a guess of it.

Like what is this and where is it located and what is it's relation to the roof struction, floor structure and load points.

Well another person has advised me it is just a soffit created to house the recessed lighting that was inthere.

I suspect that person is right.

And if so a soffit is not load bearing.

But there are no quarantees in my suspions.
