My den has oak panel wainscot. I'd like to add new large profile crown moulding [currently the room has none].
My question is whether or not it would be appropriate to install PAINTED moulding instead of stained/polyed mouding.

Oak moulding in large profiles is very expensive as you know.

I have heard that there are companies that make large profile mouldings of polyurethane with wood veneers surfaces that can be stained like real wood, but so far I have not been able to locate a single source for this.

What's your ideas on painted moulding?

It is all a matter of personal taste. I personally would not mix a large profile, painted, crown molding in a den with oak panel wainscot. But that is only one person’s opinion. Bottom line it’s your house do what you like.
