Hey Everybody:
I am not sure if this is the right group to post this in, but I thought that I would give it a shot.
My wife and I have found a home that we absolutely love, but we noticed that on the north exterior wall of the home, there is some green mold growing on the vinyl siding.
Is this simply mold growing on the surface of the siding (that we can power-wash off), or is this indicative of a bigger problem (i.e.: mold inside the walls).
The inside of the house looks immaculate, but I wouldn't know what to look for to look for mold.
Thanks,
Ben

- Mold on Siding -- Is this a sign of a bigger problem
A few things that maybe a factor.
How much sun does this area get?
Is there gutters over this area?
Vegatation around ?
We are going to be painting a house on exterior soon and he has same situation, well his deck is above so he gets no sunlight and when I went uptop the deck he had no gutters. So the rain is running off the roof onto the deck and running thru the cracks to below where he has green siding. Thus I told him to get gutters it would save him alot of hassle in the long run plus save the deck and his new metal sliding doors, that he just replaced from rot.
If you like the house this much someone to look at it.
Also could have the realtor get it taken care of.

To answer the questions:
This is the north facing wall, and does not get a ton of sunshine.
There are gutters on the roof above.
There is some ground cover on the ground below the wall, but nothing else.
We will probably try and power wash the wall and get a home inspection. I will make sure that I ask the home inspector to check this area thoroughly.

In the south this happens every year we clear off during the summer. We have no problems. Kinda depends on house is shaded
