This weekend I was cleaning in the basement and found dog food in the bottom the the kid's "dress up box." It is a rubbermaid bin, that the top was not on. Lots of dog food (about 2" all over the bottom) - do mice stockpile food? or just squirrels? We had two mice this Fall, that were trapped, and found two holes by the fireplace foundation that were sealed. I am afraid that I may have a hibernating chipmunk or squirrel in the house. Any Advice?? Thanks!

Two mice? Chances are there was probably more. They like to come in and make themselves at home in the fall when it starts getting colder out. That does not mean that they won't come in other times. I would put out more traps and feed the dogs and empty the bowls when they are done. Keep the food in sealed containers or closed bins if possible.

Could it be a squirrel? Yes but it is more likely the mice you had or have.
