I have a 35 year old house on clay soil. Some piers have sunk and the floor is not level. The subfloor is 1 1/2" t&f supported by 4x6 beams held up with posts on pier blocks. Their are no joists between the beans(even though I am adding some 2x6 as time goes on). 1. What is the best way to raise a beam that is probably 1/2 inch from level? Should I use adjustable floor jacks instead of wood posts after I get the beam leveled?
