I am having crown molding put in my new home. My question is what angle should the crown molding be cut to put two boards together that are not on a corner. I have been taught to do it on a 45 angle and my builder wants to use a butt joint with glue. What is the best way to accomplish this task.
Depends on the material. If it is crown made from finger joint, or MDF and plan on being painted, then a butt joint will be ok, but if it is solid wood that will be stained then a 45 degree miter is choice.
