My house eaves filled with slush during the first significant snow fall. It has turned to solid ice from the downspouts all the way up through the entire eaves trough system.

Occassionally, I have had this happen in March with little winter left. Never had it happen so early with so much snow and sleet and freezing tempatures still to come.

Any ideas on how I can clear this ice and prevent the roof snow thaw from backing up?

Any ideas on how to prevent this from occuring in the first place.

Questions of this nature may be better answered through the "Expert Advice" section where you can send drawings and/or photos to an expert. Then the cause of the problem may be better evaluated and resolved. There could be any number of causes for this problem depending on many variables including the type of construction, ventilation, and insulation used.

The cause of this type problem is difficult at best to pin down through this forum due to its format.
