Hi Glenn & friends!

Our concrete garage floor has settled over 40-or-so years. There's a 1/4" crack along one foundation wall, and some low spots.

The main problem is that I often have to squeegie out water that pools under the car tires.

Do any of you folks have any recommendations as to how to deal with this? I'd prefer to avoid having the entire thing jackhammered out and starting over! For example--can asphalt (tar) be put down and sloped properly--or is that a bonehead idea? Any other ideas you've seen that have worked?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Something that I have seen work on open spaces is mud jacking. Don't know why it wouldn't work here.

I have also heard of people cutting channels in the concret to a place with a drain (or that they can put a drain).

But also you want to do checking to see if it is solid under the floor and this is just moderate settling.

About a year ago there was story in the news of a house, about 50-60 yo where a drain line ran under the garage and it was leaking for years.

No one knew it until the slab and front end of the pickup dropped into the cavity.

Thanks Bill for the reply!

I had wondered about mud jacking; if the floor might end up breaking up. I guess mud jackers have that issue figured out.

Kind of ironic, I'd say--that a pickup would've been "lost" in--of all places--a garage!

We are still digging out from the recent blizzard; I think this will be a summertime project.

Thanks again!
