7ft Ceiling in high traffic Hallway-Recessed Lighting ???
I have an old farm house that I am remodeling and I have a high traffic hallway leading to all the bedrooms. The hallway is 4 feet in width and approximately 20 feet long. I think I would like to place recessed lighting in the hallway to prevent a low hanging fixture, however, I do not know how well this will work, what type of recessed lighting would work best, and if I would create enough light for a hallway, how far to space the lights, . Do you have any suggestions???
Four recessed light will give you plenty of light for a hallway. Space them out as evenly as possible.
Have you verified that there is space above the ceiling for the fixtures?
If there is an attic above it, you should be careful to buy fixtures that can have contact with insulation.

Yes it does have an attic above with enough space. But the heat is also a concern with the insulation. Do you have any suggestions. What style of recessed lighting would work best?
For that installation where the lights may extend into insulation and attic space, the 'IC' (in contact with insulation) and 'Air Tight' will be best. The air tight will not allow heated/cooled air from your room/hallway to escape up into the attic and the IC will allow you to place insulation in direct contact with the fixture.
