Dear Bubblepuppy,
One of the companies I do work for manufactures pallets. They have a contract with Stanley-Bostitch. They asked the same question. After a bit of study, I came to the conclusion that the only difference in the nails are the letters stamped on the heads. Check the configuration of different brands of nails and you'll see what I mean. The way I see it is the company that makes the gun wants you to use "their" nails. I've seen nothing in any company literature that says otherwise than the statement:" Be sure to use only (that companies) nails. Sounds like a sales pitch to me. Either way, they've used 4 different brands in their Stanley guns with no adverse effects.
