I have a charger(model 975283-001) for an 18 volt craftsman cordless 1/2" drill model #315.272070 and one of the resistors inside burnt out, I don't want to spend $50 on a new charger and cannot get any help from *****, craftsman, Ryobi(sells item to *****), or Techtronix Inc (makes product for Ryobi). all I need is the resistance & wattage value for this resistor, on the printed circuit board it is allocated as location R229, is green and is burnt so I cannot see the color codes to replace it. If U have one available to open up and look inside and give me the colors on the bands on the resistor, that would be of much help for me..
thanx.

- CRAFTSMAN 18v CHARGER #975283-001 FOR CORDLESS DRILL 315.272070
I measured R229 out of circuit (unsoldered one end) with a really good meter in 4 wire mode and saw 0.13 Ohm. The color code on the resistor is Brown-Red-Silver-Red, which I believe means it is supposed to be 0.12 Ohm (12/100) +/- 2%. Mine appears to be out of tolerance -- obviously it does not need to be within 2% because my charger is working fine! I'm guessing it is a 2 Watt resistor, but you may want to put a bigger one (3-5W) in there this time, just to be safe.
While you are in there, you should replace any electrolytic capacitors that are leaking. I found two (C102 & C202) while I had my charger open to check this for you. In fact, I think I will replace them all -- if one is leaking the rest are not far behind! Be sure you clean up the mess from the old caps before installing the new ones.
Good luck,
Greg

My problem is not being able to identify a the defective IC REF: IC101. I could not find a replacement. The marks read: J 9624, TOP104YAI, 60592B (MALAY) I tried to guess what this is (have some electronics knowledge) and installed an SCR TE5455. This did not correct the problem, and did further damage. At this point, I need identify the IC, obtain schematic information, or replace the unit. I have replaced the electrolytic capacitors that may be leaking.

well I can't seem to find the resistor @ any of the local electronics stors and emailed a few places online, I'd have to order a minimum of 10 and that would cost about half what a new charger is. this sucks. thanx any ways thorny.. as for evwood, my IC101 reads (H902 TOP227Y 81710A PHIL) and has a big I in front of ti all. voltage when turned on measured from the left leg to the middle leg was 5.92VDC, and from middle leg to right leg (writing facing U) was 336VDC.
hope that helps some

Where could a fuse(1.6a 250v) for the same charger be purchased? I'm clue less, any help would be appreciated. Thanks
the fuse U R looking 4 is from belfuse, it's 5x20mm 5TT series and is the slow blow cartridge type. the part # from belfuse is 5TT1.6 or 5TT(P)1.6 depending where U look. this is the info on it.

U can get them from International Sourcing Group (800) 467-0895 but I don't know how much they are. radioshack sell a 5x22mm 1.0amp & 2.0 amp, they might be able to order one for U..??!!
hope this helps.
