I have found dozens of face shields/eye goggles/safety glasses that cite an ANSI standard that is not sufficient to protect from grinding etc. I need protection when using my dremmel with a cutting blade wheel to cut off projecting nails through the sub-floor above (carpenters missed the floor joists) and need protection while cutting in the event the disk/wheel breaks apart. I'd also love to use those grinding wheels I purchased to sharpen some of my tools! Does anyone know where #1 I can find out the proper ANSI standard number that would protect me from such objects/debris at 25,000 rpm and not shatter/break on impact like those average safety glasses/etc. would? one that is rated to use with a lathe or grinder? I'm pulling my hair out and have a case of various ones that are NOT sufficient.

Help experts?!!!

mistressell,

What you are looking for is the high impact rating. This should have an (AOSZ87+) marking on it for goggles and faceshields.

For spectacles look for (AOS+) or (P+)

This info can be found at www.safetyglassesusa.com

Thank you Tperez! I was going NUTSO in my own efforts in trying to find the right rating to "shop" for!

I generally prefer a faceshield with safety glasses when I work with my Dremel. It helps keep my face safe. I really like the Uvex Bionic Faceshield since it fits nice and snug and it anti-fog coated. There are always plenty of safety glasses to choose from.
