Hello Everyone,
I do antique restoration for a living.
I am looking to get a new sander...
I am looking at the Porter Cable 5" Random Orbit Sander #333 with variable speed and dust collector....
Anyone have any input on sanders in general for doing refinishing work????
Any recommendations???
Thanks
Big Earl Grey

- Help In Pick a Finishing Sander for Antique Restoration????
Hi BigEarlGrey,
Not sure which model PC sander I've got, but mine is a 5" and sounds similar to the one you describe. (Although I've had mine for probably about 10 years.)
I never hooked it to a dust collector; I've just toughed it out with dust masks. I've been really happy with it. The random orbit feature is really forgiving. The noise it makes gets a bit tiresome after extended use--but not unlike many power tools.
I would definitely buy another.
