We have a yellow/brown brick fireplace that is hiddeous. The walls have been painted white and blue carpet installed. Now we need ideas on what to do with this fireplace. It is about 7 x 8 and the only wall on that side of living room. There is a seating area in front and the brick appears porous (same as the brick on outside of house which we may be putting white and blue siding on).

We thought about paint and faux finishes, but not sure what techniques to use or how to use them. The space between the bricks are mortored and I think too far apart in which case paint may not help the look at all. What about completely filling in the spaces and with what.

Please lend any ideas you can.
