I am building a new deck off the back of a home that is about 9' off the ground. The underside of the deck will be made into a screened in porch. The deck and the patio will be the roughly the same size - about 16' x 22'. I dug footings for the deck posts 5' deep (I live in Wisconsin). I will fill the holes with concrete. I would like the patio to actually cover the post holes. Then I would attach the posts (using post anchors) to the patio at the points where the footings are located. Is this going to be a problem? Will the patio "float" and make the posts for deck also move? After the patio and footings are poured, should I cut around or use expansion joints where the patio wraps around the deck footings?
