How much, as a rule of thumb, should tuckpointing cost? I need my basement walls tuckpointed, efflorescence neutralized with acid (the tuckpointer says) and 100-150 bricks replaced. I believe him because there are some old, old bricks in bad shape and many mortar gaps, plus small stalagtites of minerals in certain areas. I just want to know if he's asking for an honest $$.

He says it will be $1,850 to do my walls, which are about 80 linear feet x 8 feet high. Does that sound about right? (The first guy who quoted wanted $2,500.)

Are you talking about the white dust around the brick?

I have seen a web shop where they sell tuckpointing routers for you small grinder (very popular in Europe) and each router costs about $25.75 and last about 3,000 bricks so I guess the expensive part is the man-hours used and of course this is just the tuckpointing part.
