Why exactly is the purpose of taping drywall, and why can't you just use some kind of spackling compound or putty? We moved a door and where the old doorway was is now a piece of drywall (the old wall is blueboard and/or plaster). It seems to me the tape would be more obvious than just filling in the cracks and sanding it down smooth. Thanks.
