I moved from Iowa to NC one year ago and took along the ice melter from mid-west during my move. Two weeks ago, we had a big snow storm and I used the ice melter on the driveway. Now the driveway start to "peel off". Two question:

1. What can I do to stop the concrete from disintegrating

2. How should I repair it?

Thanks

1) Nothing you can do to stop the problem except stop using ice melt

2) Nothing you can do to repair the problem short of ripping up the old drive and pouring another or looking into an industrial type coating such as can be found here at www.dexotex.com

(And a new concrete drive may be cheaper than dexotex....)

I have stop using the ice melter already (not too often we have snow here in NC). Can I use the commerically available concrete patch for all the holes and apply a re-surface sealant? Do I need to apply anything special to the exposed concrete to get a good bond?

You can try a product like top and bond. It is made for skim concrete surface. It might be better than nothing but I have found it tends to come off in 5-10 years.

My experience with Top n' Bond and other 'patching' mixes is not positive and in my experience they last less than one season.

Not only that, they never look like the original concrete and actually detract from the looks of an already 'spalled' driveway.

Better to do nothing than to add an over-the-counter concrete resurfacing product imho.

Better to look into a long term commercial type industrial epoxy coating.
