I have a floor to ceiling stone fireplace and would like to install a pre-fab mantle. Should you try to attach the wood stringer (which holds the mantle) to the stone or the masonary joints between the stone? How? Will the wood stringer be fastened strongly enough to hold the mantle as well as objects placed on mantle?
