I am installing an inground pool on a slope. The ground will be cut into to make level ground. A retaining wall about 36-40" tall will be required along the back side of the pool. The question is, do I attach the wall to the deck surface and install a deck drain in between or do I leave room in between the deck and wall for drainage?

I'm not real clear on the question and what type of drain you are talking about?

Keep in mind it is also very important to have adequate drainage behind any retaining wall. Hydrostatic pressure is one of the major causes of retaining wall failure.
