This past summer we had bricks put on our house. Recently, we noticed that there are several areas that have a whitish misty substance over them. I tried to remove with a brush & water but it came back. Any ideas what this is and how to get rid of it?

this is efflouresance.

it is the salts in the brick coming out with moisture that evapourates.

is there an air space in behind the brick allowing for a good air flow in behind the brick.

on the bottom course of the brick, on the side joints, is about every third joint open with no mortar to allow air to get in.

is there a leaking roof over the whitish areas causing the brick to become wet and do this.

muriatic acid (....caution....) can clean off the efflouresance better but it will come back if moisture is still a problem.
