Is there any product that will melt ice on walkways in the winter without harming the walkway? Due to my ignorance as a new homeowner, my brick front stairs and flagstone & mortar walkway are both falling apart. I have to have both redone, and it's costing a fortune! I see products that claim not to damage cement, etc., but I don't trust them. Does anyone know of one from personal experience? Thanks.

since you are having it rebuilt, have heat tubes laid into it.

If you don't trust the materials on the market that say it does not harm concrete then use sand and sweep it up in the spring.

another option is to shovel it off before walking on it, and packing it into ice

Thank you all for your advice. I did drive to the Cape (Cod) to get a wagon full of sand for the time being. I will definitely look into heat tubes though. I never heard of them. Thanks again.
