we have a raised flagstone patio with brick retaining walls on three sides. Walls have become green due to moss from shade. I am afraid to power wash because it might dislodge the old mortar. Is there any solution I can spray on and then then just hose off, which will get all the bricks clean without damaging the mortar or flagstone? thanks a lot......

Hi user001,

There are some products available for this type of application. Though I can't give you any product names, I can tell you that there are algaecides that are sprayed onto algae and mold to eliminate them, but i'm not convinced that you should'nt use a pressure cleaner also. Most algae and mold can be cleaned off very easily with very low pressure. If you wet the surface from a distance of several feet and let it soak for twenty minutes or so(keeping it wet), that will loosen up the algae and make it much easier to wash off. It seems that most people rent the highest pressure model of cleaner they can and just go for the erosion approach to cleaning things. My advice to to pre-soak the surface with the spray nozzle, tehn using minimum pressure, wash the walls gently. There is no need to blast them. Look into the alghaecide first, it will probably give you more time in between cleanings. Try your local pressure cleaning supply wholesaler, or your local pesticide dealer.
