Hi. I was wondering if I were to change my garage into living space, would that help the value of my home go up cuz it would be living space?

Hello....just my opinion; I am not a real estate professional...only a "potential buyer".
I'd watch for a few of things here:
1. Obviously, you lose storage space for cars, junk, etc.
2. Would you have a driveway leading to "nowhere"? (This can look like an obvious cost-cutting garage conversion.)
3. Would it fit with the internal "flow" of the house--or just look like some room "off to the side?"
4. Garages generally have lower floors than the house. Would this have to be built up to house floor level?
So not a real answer per se, but I'd suggest you might be better off building an addition properly in the right place.
Actually I am a real estate professional and the first reply I dont think I could have said it better myself, Adding SQFT is the best way to raise your home value but like he said if it looks like an old garage smells like an old garage then it will always be an old garage. I have seen both severely bad and good conversions, if you do it just do it right.
