My property is 97' in the front, 49' in the back, and 160' on the side.

How many square feet does that make and how do you calculate it?

Thanks for any info

Break it up into two triangles and a rectangle.

Re my question on sq. ft. My property is 97' front, 49' back, and 160' on the side.

To determine the sq. ft, I was told to break it up into two triangles & a rectangle.

In case you're not already ahead of me on this, my next question is how do I do that?

Thanks for any info

Be aware that this is an estimate as you did not give the length of all four sides.

Area of a rectangle is base times height( or width times length)

Area of a triangle is half the base times the height.

We don't know the height of the Rectangle (length)

We do know the width of the rectangle is 49 and assuming your property is 160 on both sides the base of the triangles will be half 97 minus 49.

or 48 divided by 2 which is 24.

Since we know two sides of a triangle we can figure the third. We have the hypotenuse and the base. So we square the hypotenuse then subtract the square of the base then take the square root to get the third side of the triangle.

or 160x160 minus 24x24 = Length x Length

25024= length x length

~158.2= length

now back to the area of the triangle

158.2 x 24 divided by 2 = 1898.4

there is a triangle on both sides so we multiply that by two. and get 3796.8 square feet

If the distance is different that 160 on both sides the bases of the triangle would change.

Now for the rectangle we have length times width.

158.2 times 49 = 7751.8

7751.8 plus 3796.8 = 11548.6 square feet

1 Acre = 43560 Square Feet

So you have about .265 acres or a bit more than a quarter acre.

Now remember if you are doing this for a real-estate list etc you may not be able to include any type of city easements etc.

I hope this helps

Can you just inform me the dimension of your land properly..
Unless the land is a perfect square, you need to know at least one dimension in addition to the area. Either the length or width, and you can calculate the other..
