We are building a new home with vaulted ceilings in the living room. We will be installing 8" tongue-and-groove planks on the ceiling and can't decide to miter the ends of the boards (i.e., 45 degree angle in the plane of the ceiling) or just butt the ends as they are. Would there be some reason other than aesthetics (like strength or stability) that would suggest doing it one way or another?
