My new fixture has a mirror face and thus weighs about 2 pounds. I expect to drill two 5/16" holes through the mirror to attach the new fixture to the wall behind with wall anchors.
How can I drill the glass mirror without damaging it?

My bathroom has a 36" lighting fixture mounted on the 6'x4' bathroom mirror, and the only hole is 3" diameter for the electrical in the center. The original fixture was light enough to be mounted with double-sided foam tape.
Good Luck! You will have to get a diamond encrusted drill bit, if you cannot find one try a stained glass supplier.
I've seen bits for drilling glass but have not used one. I think I'd be VERY careful when doing so and try a couple of practice holes in other glass first. Maybe someone can advise about the right amount of pressure to put on it and best drill speed (fast/slow).
