We have recently purchased a 63-inch projection screen TV, and placed it in our family room. What can I do so that it doesn't quite dominate the entire room? The room itself is quite large, but that big black screen is pretty intimidating. I have to keep the room color bright, if not pastel, because it's in the bottom of a bi-level which only has two 36-inch windows. Any suggestions will be appreciated and strongly considered!

Buy a giant windsurfing board or sailboat and store it at the other end of the room.
Purchasing a 63 inch projection t.v. somewhat includes an implied choice to make it the dominant feature of anything smaller than a small ballroom. That is the down-side of large projection t.v.s: they take up so much room and thus require a large room for them to not dominate the room.
Well....
the unit might be less imtimidating if the area around and behind it were the same color as the TV.

well it is true what Lawrence said about purchasing a huge TV is a choice to have a BIG TV-the TV is suppose to be the show piece...
you could make an armoire for it-of course it would have to be custom for something that big. I always prefer armoires to having the TV sticking bare right out there.
You can also-instead of using pales and pastels use very bold/primary colors. That way the TV doesnt seem so dominating-Black.

I have a 70" and I plan on enclosing it in an oak cabinet, this will look good, remain functional and add cabinet space for DVD player, VCR, surround system etc...
I have a 65-inch bad boy myself. Personally I bought it FOR the room. When you get into rear-screen projection it’s supposed to be big and if you don’t get comments from anyone that comes over it’s not big enough. If you’re looking for a big screen and have the cash to spend look at a plasma then. It will take up very little room and still give you the size you need. Personally I am building a wall that the tv will fit behind so all you will see is the big screen on a white wall.
