I have a deck a one third around a pool. There are steps going up to it. At the top of the steps is a gate. The gate is 48" by 38" and is on hings and has a wheel on the one corner. The wheel is making a black track on the desk when the gate is opened and close.
My question is can I enforce the gate by putting a z of x brace on the inside of the gate and take off the wheel? Any suggestions will help.

Also can you suggest a spring hinge to close the gate automatically.

If you go to the local hardware or depot type place you can get a diagonal cable brace already made for this application, it even has an adjustable universal connector in the center of the cable for adjustments later.

I use it quite often for gates over 3'
