We are remodeling a house that has BEAUTIFUL white plaster crown molding in the living room. The former owner was a heavy smoker. Any suggestions on how to clean plaster crown molding?

Also, I've seen ceilings painted the same color white as the crown molding OR the same color as the wall so the white crown molding stands out. Any suggestions? Does either paint job make the room look smaller?
