We have short 8' ceilings in the new home that we are purchasing. Even though I would love to vault these ceilings, I fear that will be too much work. I saw a photo of a coffered ceiling that I loved and thought maybe that was a posibility. We already have real wood beams along the ceiling. Do you think adding more would be a bad thing due to the 8' height? I was thinking it would draw attn to the ceiling making it seem like it was intentional rather than trying to make it look higher when there is only so much you can do. Opinions appreciated.

One trick the production builders use for a coffered look is to take trim moulding & put it up in grid pattern making it look coffered without the extra effort. I was apprehensive about it when my hubby explained it but once I saw it, it looked really nice. Let me know if you need more info.
