We recently purchased an 1880 built home and would like to add a patio or deck to the back, but want to stay with the time period. Can anyone give us ideas where to start looking? Wife wants to brick and use wrought iron the edges, I want to do a wood deck.

I would go with both then...

Use a ipe or fir T&G for one height, then step down to a concrete stamped to look like river rock like I did for this home:
