I'm rebuilding an old deck the measures about 6'x12'...not real big. It's on a hillside in the backyard and plumbs out about 4' in the front and butts up against the fence/property line in the back at grade. The old covering was a lattice-type made of 2x2s. I live in the rainy Northwest, so I want to build a covered roof reflecting NW styles...perhaps shake shingles.
1. Can anyone provide advice where I can go to get some basic contruction ideas. I've never built a roof.
2. I'm also building right up to the property line. What can you tell me about setback restrictions? I read somewhere the eaves cannot extend more than 18" into the setback. Would this apply to a deck roof as well as a shed or dwelling?
