Ok here the deal, My contracter broke up my old patio and is gonna put in a new one. I also had a old black top in the back yard torn up too but the contracter has taken all of the old broken up black top and placed it in the prepared area where the concrete is going to be laid for the patio. Now is this something that he should be doing? I am not sure if he is leaving it there or not becasue i havnt had a chance to ask him but if he does and pours concrete over the black top chunks would this comprimise the strength and life of the concrete>?

No it shouldn't if it is smaller pieces and he will still be able to get his base down level with the 10x10 wma & 3" of concrete over it.

It's funny he didn't do it the other way though? Leave the smaller pieces of concrete & remove the blacktop.
