I built a new 16x16 deck with pressure treated lumber. I have heard not to put anything on it. I have had others tell me to waterseal it with the time varying on how long to wait to do this. Also, a small section of the deck is screened and some 4x4 posts were used. I had thought that I would paint them the trim color of the house. Again, different opinions on how and when to paint. Can someone please give me an answer as to what I am supposed to do?

If you finish PT lumber you can do it as soon as the surface is dry to the touch.

Usually less than 2 weeks in the middle of the summer. Longer in cooler weather or if you have having lots of rain.

The treatment for PT lumber protects it against rot and insect damage.

HOWEVER, it is still subject to damage by the sun's UV rays. Also if you live in a cold area it can get wet and freeze with causes a rough surface. Specially if it is SYP.

In general the more tint in the product the longer it will last.

Clear, tinted, semi-transparent stain, solid body stain.

I would not use paint on deck. Moisture can get under it and it will blister and peal.

You can use paint on part taht you can paint all surfaces such as rails and post. But I would still recommend a solid color stain.

Don't know if they can do all colors, but I had SW tint some solid body stain the same color as the house paint and you can't tell the difference.

Some new deck stains are designed to apply right away after the deck is built. I believe that you should wait until the deck is dry before staining. A few simple methods to tell if you deck is dry enough. Screw into the deck and if water comes out the deck is too wet. Another method is to put a black plastic bag over the deck board for two hours. If the wood has moisture on tit when you remove the bag then your deck is still to wet. Another is the old drop method. Just drop a small amount of water onto the deck. If the deck absorbs the water then the deck is dry enough.

If you go to www.hemmingsjones.com/decks you will find articles and links to staining deck, cleaning decks and how to.
