Our 2 redwood decks - more than 16 years old, approx 200 and 500 feet - need replacing. Need to understand material options - pros, cons, costs. Would prefer something that does not require much maintenence.

All decks need a certain amount of maintenance, as you know. In my humble opinion for the least maintenance with the best quality:
Frame with ground pressure treat it is done with a deeper penetration of the ACQ and use double-galvanized or stainless steel fasteners & hardware. If you have to use any doubled members top them with the membrane type flashing, try to use a 4x6 rather than 2 - 2x6 for example.
Deck with ipe (check to make sure it is farmed not taken from the rainforest)and leave it natural, less work keeping up a stain. Space it properly seal the ends before you install, use a side/bottom fastener rather than a top like a screw if the budget allows.
Rail with stainless cabling or vinyl.
